Story paper to print
Story paper gives a child a box to draw the picture and wide-ruled lines underneath to write what happens. It is the classic classroom sheet for early creative writing. Print one for each story, or a stack for a whole class.

How to use story paper
A page with a blank box at the top for a drawing and handwriting lines below it for the words.
Step by step
- 1Draw the scene first. A child draws the moment in the box at the top, which gives them the picture to write about.
- 2Write the sentence below. On the guide lines under the picture, they write one or two sentences that tell what is happening.
- 3Build a book page by page. Each sheet is one page of a story, so a stack of them becomes a first book the child made.
- Picture before words
- Drawing first gives a reluctant writer something concrete to describe, so the sentence comes easier.
- Good for
- Early writing, story projects and classroom writing centres.
