How to solve number blocks
Fill each outlined block of k cells with the numbers 1 to k, and never let two equal digits touch, even diagonally.
The method
- 1Size each block. A block of three cells holds 1, 2, 3; a block of five holds 1 to 5. Count the cells to know its digits.
- 2Place the givens. Start from the printed digits and the small blocks, where there are fewest choices.
- 3Watch the neighbours. A digit blocks that same digit from all eight surrounding cells, so a placed number rules out its neighbours.
- 4Work block by block. Fill a block with its missing digits so none clashes with a touching cell, then move to the next.
- The one rule
- Each block holds 1 to its size, and equal digits never touch.
- What the answer page shows
- The completed grid is printed at the back.
- How the grades differ
- Bigger grids and fewer givens mean more to deduce.
- Good for
- Solvers who like a compact, quick logic grid.
