Isometric paper to print

Isometric paper carries a lattice of lines at 30 degrees, so cubes and other solids can be sketched in three dimensions without perspective. The 5 mm spacing suits technical drawing and game maps. It prints at Letter size with light grey lines.

One page at the size you choose. The rules are 0.6 pt and mid grey, so they print clearly and sit behind your handwriting. The same engine draws every page of a bound journal in our studio.

How to use isometric paper

A grid of triangles built from three sets of parallel lines at 60 degrees, for drawing 3D shapes without perspective.

Step by step

  1. 1Draw the three axes. Vertical lines go up, and the two diagonal sets go back-left and back-right. Every edge of your object follows one of these three directions.
  2. 2Build up from a base. Draw the footprint on the diagonals, then raise the vertical edges to give it height.
  3. 3Keep depth honest. One triangle edge is one unit in every direction, so a cube reads as a cube and nothing is foreshortened.
Why isometric, not perspective
Lines stay parallel and to scale, so you can measure straight off the drawing. That is why designers and engineers use it.
Good for
Technical drawing, product sketches, game and model design.
