Once Books vs Hooray Heroes
A playful family-avatar builder, or your child’s real face in 24 styles.
Reviewed 26 August 2026
Hooray Heroes lets you build a cartoon avatar of your child (and up to five family members or pets) and drop them into a warm, playful printed story. It makes a lovely multi-character gift, but the characters are menu-built avatars in a single house style, not your child’s real face. Once Books builds each character from a photo and keeps that exact likeness on every page, in any of 24 art styles, available as a digital book from $9.99 today, with a printed hardcover coming soon, and a free preview. Pick Hooray Heroes for a family-cast avatar book; pick Once Books when likeness and art-style choice matter most.

The bottom line
For a fun, family-wide cast of cartoon avatars, Hooray Heroes is a strong choice. If you want the book to look like your child specifically (real likeness, your chosen art style, every page), Once Books is the better fit, and still handles siblings, family and pets.
