Answer

What is the difference between isometric and orthographic drawings?

Updated 21 September 2026

An isometric drawing shows a solid in 3D on one picture, with the three axes at equal 120 degree angles, so you see the top, front and side at once. An orthographic drawing splits the same solid into separate flat views, usually a plan and two elevations, each looked at square on.

The two are inverses of each other, which is why they make good puzzles in both directions. A draw-the-views puzzle gives you the isometric drawing and asks for the orthographic views. A build-the-solid puzzle gives you the views and asks for the solid on isometric paper.

Try both on the draw the views and build the solid pages. Every answer is drawn from the same figure as the puzzle, so it cannot disagree with it.
