# Circular mazes

A circular maze is built from concentric rings cut into wedges. You enter through a gap in the outer rim and work inward to the small circle at the centre, so progress is counted in rings rather than in distance across a page.

## Why the rings subdivide as they go out

The outer ring of a circular maze is several times longer than the inner one. If every ring held the same number of cells, the middle would be slivers and the rim would be caverns, and the maze would read as a target rather than a puzzle.

So the generator splits a ring whenever its cells would get too wide, which keeps every corridor roughly as wide as it is tall, from the hub to the rim. That is why a circular maze from this tool looks evenly woven rather than stretched.

## A labyrinth is not a maze

A labyrinth has one winding path and no choices: you cannot get lost, and walking it is the point. A circular maze has junctions and dead ends, and you can absolutely get lost. If you came looking for the calm single-path spiral, what you want is a labyrinth, and this is not it.

four ways out, but two of them curve

## Circular

Concentric rings cut into wedges, with a gap in the outer rim to enter by and a small circle at the middle to reach.

**How it solves**

You are working inward rather than across, so progress is measured in rings rather than distance. The rings subdivide as they go out, which keeps the outer corridors a readable width instead of letting them open into caverns.

**Good for**

Anyone who wants a maze that looks like a labyrinth rather than a grid.

## Questions

**Are these circular mazes free to print?**

Yes. Generate the maze above and print it with its answer, at no cost and with no sign-up. It is free for classroom, home and personal use.

**Is there exactly one way through?**

Yes. The maze is carved as a spanning tree, which means every square is reachable and exactly one route joins any two of them. The answer page draws that route, found by searching the maze itself rather than drawn alongside it.

**Can I make a maze book to sell on KDP?**

Yes. The free tool makes one maze. Publisher Studio generates hundreds of graded mazes in one shape, with an optional how-to-solve page, at any KDP trim, as a print-ready 300 DPI interior and a matching solutions PDF.
