**Are the puzzles guaranteed to have one solution?**

Yes, and it is the thing to check when you compare Nurikabe books. Every board is proved to shade exactly one way before it enters the book, which most boards you could draw would not.

**How is the answer page printed?**

The same grid with every sea square shaded, in a dark grey rather than solid black. A page three fifths covered in solid black cockles an interior sheet and shows through to the back of the leaf, which is the one thing about this genre that is a print problem rather than a layout one.

**Is a Nurikabe the same as a hitori?**

No, though both are shading puzzles and both keep the unshaded squares connected. In hitori you shade duplicate numbers and shaded squares may never touch; here the shaded squares are meant to be one region, and the numbers give island sizes rather than saying what to remove. We publish both.
