## How to use lined paper

Evenly spaced horizontal rules, at college (7.1 mm) or wide (8.7 mm) spacing, with a date line and a page number.

### Step by step

1. Match the spacing to the handwriting. College rule suits small, practised handwriting. Wide rule gives younger writers and larger hands more room.
2. Write on the line, not the margin. Keep text inside the ruled area. If you are binding the sheets, the inside margin is where the holes or the spine go.
3. Print a stack, or bind a book. Print one sheet at a time for notes, or set a ruling and a page count in the journal maker to bind a whole notebook.

**Rules that print**

The lines are 0.6 pt in mid grey, dark enough that a home printer or a print-on-demand press holds them, light enough to sit behind ink.
