## How to use isometric paper

A grid of triangles built from three sets of parallel lines at 60 degrees, for drawing 3D shapes without perspective.

### Step by step

1. Draw the three axes. Vertical lines go up, and the two diagonal sets go back-left and back-right. Every edge of your object follows one of these three directions.
2. Build up from a base. Draw the footprint on the diagonals, then raise the vertical edges to give it height.
3. Keep depth honest. One triangle edge is one unit in every direction, so a cube reads as a cube and nothing is foreshortened.

**Why isometric, not perspective**

Lines stay parallel and to scale, so you can measure straight off the drawing. That is why designers and engineers use it.

**Good for**

Technical drawing, product sketches, game and model design.
