# Cookies on this site

Here is every third-party service we load, what it stores, and why — nothing runs until you agree to it, and you can change your mind whenever you like.

## Nothing loads until you say yes

When you first arrive, none of the services below are running and nothing is stored on your device. They load only for the categories you turn on, and not a moment before — ignoring the banner counts as “no”. Accepting and rejecting are one click each, side by side, and nothing is pre-ticked. Your choice lasts a year, and **Cookie settings** in the footer changes it any time — including switching everything back off.

## What we use, if you allow it

Grouped by the choice that controls it. Each of these is a separate switch on the banner — agreeing to one is not agreeing to another.

### Product analytics

Helps us see which pages people actually read, and where the studio gets confusing — which steps get abandoned, how long generation takes. We record IDs and timings, never your photos, prompts, or your child’s details.

| Provider | What it does | What it stores | Kept for | Where |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Google Google Analytics 4 [Their privacy policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) | Measures which pages are visited and how people move through the site, so we know what to improve. | Google Analytics cookies (\_ga and similar) holding a random visitor ID — no name, email or contact detail. | Up to 2 years | United States |

### Crash reports

Sends us a technical report when something breaks, so we can fix it.

| Provider | What it does | What it stores | Kept for | Where |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Microsoft Microsoft Clarity [Their privacy policy](https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement) | Records anonymised, masked replays of how pages are used, so we can see where a step gets confusing. Text and anything you type are hidden before the recording leaves your browser. | Microsoft Clarity cookies (\_clck, \_clsk) holding a random session ID. | Up to 1 year | United States |

### Live chat

Loads the chat widget so you can message us from the site. Sets a cookie to remember your conversation if you start one.

| Provider | What it does | What it stores | Kept for | Where |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Crisp IM Crisp [Their privacy policy](https://crisp.chat/en/privacy/) | Runs the live-chat widget so you can message us from the site, and keeps your conversation going if you come back. | A Crisp session cookie that remembers your conversation on this device. | Up to 6 months | European Union |

### Advertising

Lets advertising platforms such as Meta know that you visited, so we can measure which adverts bring people to Once Books. Off unless you turn it on.

| Provider | What it does | What it stores | Kept for | Where |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Meta Platforms Meta Pixel [Their privacy policy](https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy) | Advertising. Tells Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that you visited, so we can measure which adverts bring people to Once Books. | Meta advertising cookies (\_fbp and similar) that identify your browser to Meta. | Up to 90 days | United States |

## When you sign in to make a book

The Once Books studio (the app you use to actually create a book) needs a small number of **strictly necessary** cookies — to keep you signed in and to protect the forms you submit. These aren’t optional because the app can’t work without them, and they don’t track you across other sites.

## Where to read more

How we handle data generally is in the [Privacy Policy](https://www.oncebooks.com/privacy/), and the third parties who process data on our behalf are listed on the [subprocessors](https://www.oncebooks.com/subprocessors/) page. This page always reflects what’s actually true today. Questions in the meantime: [privacy@oncebooks.com](mailto:privacy@oncebooks.com).
